Websites for architects in Germany: show projects, convince clients, meet the rules
Architecture firms often have beautiful websites that bring few enquiries: large images, short project titles, hardly any text. Clients, however, mainly want to know whether the firm can handle their kind of project, how working together works and what to expect on fees and time. A good architect website combines the firm's visual language with exactly those answers.
Project pages: brief, solution, result
A project with three photos and the title "House M." impresses fellow architects but hardly a private client. Give each project its own page with a short story:
- The starting point: site, existing building, the client's wishes and budget range.
- The challenge: zoning plan, slope, heritage protection, energy standard, tight schedule.
- The solution and why it was chosen.
- Key facts: location, floor area, construction time, work stages the firm covered.
- A quote from the client, if they agree.
Explain the process and fees clearly
Many private clients don't know what an architect does at which stage. A page explaining the collaboration from initial assessment to post-completion support in everyday language lowers the barrier to enquire.
On fees: since the Court of Justice of the EU struck down the HOAI's binding minimum and maximum rates in 2019 (C-377/17), the fee tables of the HOAI 2021 are guide values in Germany, and fees are agreed in text form. Explain on the website what fees depend on and, where possible, give typical ranges for your most common project types.
Professional title and legal notice
In Germany the title "Architekt" is protected by the state architects' acts; only people registered with the competent chamber of architects may use it. Besides the usual details, the legal notice (Impressum) therefore needs:
- The professional title and the state where it was granted.
- The chamber of architects where you are registered, with membership number if applicable.
- The professional rules, such as your state's architects' act, and where to access them.
- Professional liability insurance details: insurer, address, territorial scope (Section 2 DL-InfoV).
Image rights, speed and cost
Project photos often come from photographers. Check that the licence covers use on the website and social media, and credit the photographer if agreed. Identifiable people in photos need to consent.
Large images are the most common reason for slow architect websites. Modern image formats, sizes matched to each device and lazy loading keep the visual language without ruining load time. An architect website with project pages, process and mandatory information starts at €1,800 fixed price with us.
Frequently asked questions
- Should we separate private and commercial projects?
- Yes, if you serve both. Private clients search for family homes, conversions or renovations; commercial clients for offices, industrial buildings or competitions. Separate sections answer the right questions for each.
- How many projects should be on the website?
- Eight well-described projects beat thirty image galleries. Choose the ones that match the work you want more of.
- Can we add new projects ourselves?
- Yes. You create projects with text, key facts and images in the editor; images are optimised for every device automatically on upload.
