Website for contractors and tradespeople: what makes the phone ring

People look for a contractor at a specific moment: the boiler is broken, the bathroom needs redoing, the roof leaks. They open two or three results on their phone and call the one that makes it clear fastest that they do this job in their area. A contractor website does not need to be art. It needs to answer three questions in seconds: what you do, where, and how to reach you.

The five things a contractor website needs

Everything else is extra. Miss one of these and the enquiry goes to the next business in the results.

  • One page per service: "bathroom renovation", "boiler replacement", "rewiring older homes", not everything on a single "Services" page.
  • Service area stated clearly: the towns and districts you cover.
  • Tap-to-call: phone number at the top, dialable from a phone.
  • Real project photos with a short description, no stock images.
  • A short enquiry form with photo upload, because customers like to show the problem.

Mobile first, fast, no friction

Most enquiries to trades businesses come from phones. A site you have to zoom into, or a phone number embedded as an image, loses jobs directly. Test it yourself: open the site on your phone over mobile data and try to call within ten seconds.

Check the address bar too. If the browser says "Not secure", the site has no encrypted connection (HTTPS). Many visitors leave at that point, especially when asked to fill in a form.

Getting found on Google in your area

Two places in Google matter for contractors: the map with local results and the regular results. For the map you need a well-kept Google Business Profile with service area, categories, photos and reviews. For regular results you need service pages that name exactly the job and the place people search for.

Ask happy customers for a review right after the job, with a link that opens the review form. A business that keeps getting fresh, honest reviews looks more trustworthy than one with three old ones.

Legal basics and what a contractor website costs

Check what your market requires: in Germany, for example, a full legal notice (Impressum), a privacy policy and cookie consent for non-essential cookies are mandatory. The legal texts come from your lawyer or a generator; the developer integrates them correctly.

For many businesses five to ten pages are enough: home, one page per main service, projects, about, contact. At Onravetoni such a company website starts at €1,800, fixed price; if you promote a single service, a landing page from €600 can be enough. Domain and hosting are running costs on top.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Google Business Profile enough without a website?
For calls from the map it can work at first. For searches for specific services, for trust and for enquiries with photos you need a website. The two together work best.
How many pages does a contractor website need?
Usually five to ten: home, one page per main service, projects, about and contact. More pages only make sense if each answers its own service or question.
Can I add project photos myself?
Yes. We build the site so you can add photos and text without a developer, and hand over a short guide.
