Websites for mid-sized manufacturers: enquiries from export markets

Mid-sized manufacturers sell products that need explaining to professionals, often in many countries. Buyers and engineers research online for a long time before enquiring, comparing technical data, references and availability. Many industrial websites show glossy images but no answers. This article shows what a manufacturer website needs for enquiries at home and abroad.

By application, not by part number

Customers search for their problem, such as "palletising robot for food" or "dispensing system for two-component adhesives", not your internal type code. Create pages by industry and application that point to the right products. Every product page contains technical data as text, not only as a PDF, so search engines and buyers can find and compare it.

Enquiries sales can handle immediately

A technical enquiry form should ask for:

  • Application, material or product, throughput or quantity.
  • Installation situation and interfaces.
  • Timeframe and delivery country.
  • Upload for drawings or specifications.
  • Contacts per country or region with a direct line.

Export: languages and target markets

Exporters need language versions with their own URLs, not just automatic translation. Prioritise the languages of your main markets and have technical texts translated or reviewed by specialists. Name sales partners and service points per country; buyers want to know who helps on site when something breaks.

Documents and the new Machinery Regulation

From 20 January 2027 the EU Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies. It allows manufacturers to provide instructions digitally in principle, under conditions such as keeping the version for the delivered machine available for the required period and supplying a paper copy on request. A documents area on the website or a customer portal with instructions per serial number is the obvious place for that.

A manufacturer website with application pages, technical enquiries and two languages starts at €1,800 with us; a document portal and further languages are scoped by size.

Frequently asked questions

Do prices belong on an industrial website?
Rarely for custom machinery. For spare parts, standard components or service contracts, prices or a B2B shop can make sense.
Is a blog worth it for a machinery maker?
Technical articles on applications, selection criteria and case studies bring exactly the engineers who enquire later. General company news doesn't.
How do we provide digital instructions?
Through a documents area mapped to machine type and serial number, permanently available. Check the Machinery Regulation's requirements case by case.
