Websites for car dealers: stock, mandatory information and test drive requests

Car buyers research online for a long time before visiting a dealership: listing portals, reviews, finance calculators. The dealer's website decides whether they then contact you. It must show current stock, make test drives and trade-ins easy, and correctly include the mandatory information for new cars. Examples use German rules.

Stock: current and without double entry

Stock should come automatically from your dealer management system or the listing portal you already maintain. Website and portals then match, and sold cars disappear instantly. Filters by make, model, price, fuel and gearbox belong there, usable on a phone.

Mandatory information for new cars

Under Section 5 of Germany's car energy labelling ordinance (Pkw-EnVKV), dealers must state energy consumption, CO2 emissions and CO2 class in advertising for new passenger cars, with specific rules for online advertising. That covers model pages, offers and ads on the website. Build this information into the templates rather than adding it by hand to each offer.

For finance and leasing offers with prices, the Price Indication Ordinance applies as well; have sample offers checked before publishing.

Enquiries that sell

Every enquiry should reach the right salesperson in the CRM directly:

  • Book a test drive with a preferred date directly from the vehicle.
  • Trade-in: upload vehicle data, mileage and photos, get a purchase offer back.
  • Finance enquiry with term and down payment.
  • Callback from the responsible salesperson instead of a general mailbox.

Don't forget service and workshop

For many dealers, service brings the steadier revenue. Online booking for inspections, tyre changes and roadworthiness tests with vehicle data therefore deserves equal space on the home page. A dealer website with stock integration, enquiry forms and service booking starts at €1,800 with us; integration with your DMS is scoped in the quote.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't linking to the listing portal enough?
Then you lose prospects to other dealers on the portal. Your own stock on the website keeps visitors with you and strengthens your brand.
Do the CO2 requirements apply to used cars?
The Pkw-EnVKV covers new passenger cars. For demonstrators and pre-registered cars check case by case; if in doubt, include the information.
Can salespeople post offers themselves?
Yes. Promotions and in-house offers are edited in the editor; stock comes automatically from your system.
