Websites for physiotherapy practices: inform patients, fill appointments, find therapists

Physiotherapy practices rarely have too few patients, but often a phone that rings constantly during treatment and open therapist positions. A good practice website answers patients' standard questions, pre-sorts appointment requests and recruits staff. Health professions in Germany face stricter rules than other service providers while doing so.

What patients want to know

Patients arrive with a prescription or a specific complaint. The website should clearly answer:

  • Which treatments are offered: physiotherapy, manual therapy, lymphatic drainage, equipment-based training, home visits.
  • Whether the practice treats statutory patients with a prescription, private patients and self-payers, and what self-pay treatments cost.
  • How to get an appointment, roughly how long the wait is and what to bring to the first session.
  • Step-free access, parking, public transport.

Appointments: take load off the phone

An online form for appointment requests with prescription details, preferred times and a callback number already saves a lot of phone time. If your practice software supports online booking, fixed appointment types can be booked directly, such as initial assessments or self-pay treatments.

Don't ask for diagnoses or findings in the form. That is health data under Article 9 GDPR, which is specially protected; a callback clarifies details more safely.

Professional title and advertising rules

In Germany "Physiotherapeut" is a protected title that requires a licence under Section 1 of the Physiotherapy Professions Act (MPhG). State the title and the country where it was granted in the legal notice, and list team qualifications accurately.

Advertising for treatments falls under the German Medicinal Products Advertising Act (HWG). Avoid promises of cure ("pain-free after three sessions"), misleading depictions of case histories and claims that invite self-diagnosis. Factual descriptions of methods and processes are fine.

The careers page

For many practices, finding therapists is the more pressing problem. A careers page with salary range, working time models, training budget, treatment time per patient and photos of the real team works better than any job board ad. Each vacancy gets its own page with structured data so it can appear in Google's job search.

Frequently asked questions

Can we show patient reviews?
Genuine reviews are generally possible if they aren't selected misleadingly and contain no promises of cure. Linking to your Google profile is often simpler.
Is a blog worth it for a physiotherapy practice?
Short, factual texts on common questions, such as what a treatment involves, help with local search. They don't replace treatment and should say so.
Can we update opening hours and holidays ourselves?
Yes. Hours, holidays, team and vacancies are edited in the editor without a developer.
