Instagram for local businesses: what to post, how to get visits and which rules apply

For restaurants, cafés, salons and shops, Instagram is often the second place people check after Google: does it look good, is it current, is it my style? You do not need viral reels. You need a profile that answers the important questions and a rhythm you can keep up.

A profile that answers questions

The bio says what you offer, where and for whom, with a link to booking, the menu or the shop. Pinned posts show your best offer, the location and reviews. Story highlights for prices, opening hours and directions save many direct messages.

Content that brings visits

Show what makes people come: the dish of the day, a finished haircut, new arrivals, the team at work. Formats that work for local businesses:

  • Short videos of a process: plating a dish, a before-and-after, unpacking new goods.
  • Concrete offers with a date: “Tonight: live jazz, tables from 7 pm”.
  • Faces: the team, regular guests who agree, partners from the neighbourhood.
  • Answers to frequent questions as short reels or carousels.

A rhythm you can keep

Two or three posts a week plus daily stories beat a burst of activity followed by silence. Plan a month in advance, film several clips in one session and use a scheduling tool. Measure what brings profile visits, link clicks and messages, not just likes.

The rules: legal notice, labels, music and photos

In Germany, a business profile needs an easily reachable legal notice, usually a link in the bio (§ 5 DDG). Paid cooperations with influencers must be labelled as advertising (§ 5a UWG). Music in commercial content needs rights: business accounts get a limited library of licensed tracks, or you license music yourself. Photos of guests and employees need their consent.

Instagram and your website

Instagram brings attention, but bookings and orders work better on your own website, where you control the process and the data. Link the bio to a page that matches the latest post, not just the home page. We build such pages and connect them to booking, ordering or the CRM; a landing page starts at €600 with us.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a local business post?
Two or three posts a week and regular stories are enough if the content is relevant. Consistency matters more than volume.
Are Instagram ads worth it for local businesses?
Often, for events, openings and seasonal offers in a small radius. Test with a small budget and measure bookings, not likes.
Do we need a legal notice on Instagram?
Yes, a business profile in Germany needs one. A link in the bio to the legal notice on your website is the usual solution.
